Collage of Curiosities No. 31

December 2025

As I write this, it’s not yet Christmas Eve and I’ve been up for some time now. Next to me, swirling vapors rise above my third cup of coffee. It’s still dark beyond our windows and Kenny is sleeping soundly in the bedroom underneath several cats. Our tree is aglow, different sizes of white light bulbs creating an enchanting twinkling effect. A familiar feeling of excited anticipation is bubbling inside like the fizziest of champagnes.

We live near family but there are also those that are far flung. Having celebrated with those in our own zip code, today we are venturing out. While we will certainly be piling gifts in our sleigh, it’s the gathering of souls that has me feeling like a child on Christmas morning.

In the coming days there will be enormous amounts of laughter and storytelling. Our cups will be full and so will our hearts. Our arms will scoop up nephews and hold them tight, as if squeezing them can keep them small. Classic Christmas movies and music will string together a bounty of sweet moments. Some will stick as memories, others blending into a warm glow of a familiar feeling. A feeling that is the spirit of Christmas.

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Yule, or Boxing Day, I hope you get to experience the embraces of family and friends this holiday season and enter the new year with that cheer to comfort you through the winter months.
